i mean how many MILES, since the question says it is in KILOMETERS, I'm figuring out how many miles per second.
 
1 mile is about 0.62137 kilometer.
So 3 x 10^5 km/s
becomes 3x100000x0.6=180000
Put the answer in science notation would be 1.8 x 10^5

This is the final answer: 1.8 x 10^5 mi/s
 
You've basically answered the question yourself.

It is saying that light travels 3 x 10^5 km every second so in one second it travels 3 x 10^5 km.
