how do you fix the screen resolution on windows xp pro when it's stuck on 800x600...

...and wont move? I've been trying to fix my screen resolution for weeks now and it wont budge! this is what i do. Properties > Settings > screen resolution
BUT at the little bar to adjust the resolution, it's on 800x600 and i can't move the bar! it's stuck there! what do i do?? HELP!
