How do you hook up a home theater?

I have a reciever 2 speakers speaker wire and rca cables tv of course. It's very overwhelming right now. Can I get a quick rundown on how to hook this up please?
 
Easiest way is to hook up the TV optical OUT port to the receiver optical IN port using an optical cable. If you have those ports.
