I usually disable hardware that I don't use like floppy drive, com port, unused pci slots, unused usb slots and so on. Blocking recognition for unused hardware and hardware slots allows full ram use for your monitor display device and other crucial hardware like optical drives and hard disks.
You can do this on your Mainboard bios if it allows it or on your Operating systems device manager.
