how do you use dvd shrink or nero?

i have ie 8 and i have both nero and dvd shrink. problem is, when i use nero i think its working it says burning and does all the steps, but when i take it out and put it in my dvd player, it acts like a blank disc. i just now downloaded shrink dvd and when it asks for files and i click on any one of them it says dvd shrink cannot continue, cannot find file...someone help me!!
