How far away can a bluetooth be from the device before it's no longer paired?

I've lost my bluetooth so I turned off my bluetooth option on my phone. I turned it back on a couple of days later & it said the bluetooth was still paired with my phone. Does that mean the bluetooth is still close by?

Yes, its close, bluetooth only works about 50-75 feet
