So we are looking to buy a car for my husband. Currebtly we have a honda Oddyssey we bought for 15k with 40k miles and it is a 04'
I have been looking through craigslist and i found a 99 honda accord with 133k miles on it and we will pay cash for it. I called the dealership and they said that the selling price on the ad was incorrect that its actually 4999, as oppose to the 3999 advertised but he said since i am paying cash i could take it for 3999. I looked on blue book and it says it could go for 5900 but then i have also read a lot of their rviews and I guess a lot of those models were recalled by honda for that year. I heard there are problems with the belt and that some people have had to change the transmission several times. I am just looking for some car savy people and some possible previous owners of that model to see what you suggest.
now i know the timing belt is usually replaced every 60-80k miles so since this car has 133k miles on it it should have been done right? i also read somewhere that in some cases the car turned of while at stop lights. I really like hondas, since ive hd them ever since i started driving and i am hoping this is just a fluke of some cars. i think that if we are able to get that car at that price it would be a steal. We have also thought about getting a camry or a corolla but we are leaning more towards the honda.
i guess another oprtion we'd have is to keep saving and wait to see if we could find a steal on a civic 2000 (or higher)
what do you great people suggest?
we plan to take a mechanic friend with us to help us look at it, i hope that helps.
