How long did it take for Bud Dwyer to die when he shot himself on national TV?

I was just looking at the video. Bud Dwyer shot himself in the mouth then fell on the floor with blood pouring out his nose. Did he die at the exact second the bullet hit him or did it take a few minutes? When he was on the floor bleeding, it looked like he was still alive and could still see and everything. His eyes were opened. What really happened?
