I am trying to find out as much as I can about this for my boss and I'm getting either nothing or conflicting answers.

I have tried calling the five networks. I mostly got to speak to customer services personnel who understandably found my request to be out of the ordinary and most of whom were unable to answer my query.

The guy at Vodafone said he thought pay-and-go call records were kept for six months, but was unable to give any information regarding any archives that kept anything further back.

I called O2 and spoke to the government liason person who told me records were kept for 12 months and there were no archives, but when my colleague called he was told that O2 keep records for 2 years and also have an archive holding details from as far back as 10 years.

I called T-Mobile and got an asian call centre who were unable to tell me anything about records.

The orange legal liason team wouldn't speak to me as I am a secretary and not an "accredited point of contact" and I couldn't even get through to 3.

I am very grateful for any information at all about this. Also if anyone has any more telephone numbers I could try they would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks (:
