Hey! I lost 35 pounds last year by ramping up my exercise and changing my diet. A lot of my exercise was done on my road bike and mountain bike. Riding your bike 60 minutes a day, 6 days a week will make you drop pounds no matter how hard you go, provided you're watching your food intake. Try to get your heart rate up at least 3 times a week by either pedaling a little faster than normal or riding tougher terrain (hills for example). You'll find it will help you burn fat faster and give your heart a good workout (it is a muscle after all).
Don't worry about bulking up. When I was heavier, I carried most of my weight in my legs. It only took a couple of months to really notice the change.
And, let your body rest - rest is so important. If your back or legs are bothering you and you can't push through it in the first 10 minutes of being on the bike, take a day off. As long as you don't spend that day eating everything in sight, a day off will only do you good.
