Have you ever got a group of old friends and brought them together with a group of new friends? No one knows each other and things can get a bit awkward =/ How do you guys ease that situation? I dont know if my situation is typical but every time i try this, theres always a long silences...... This time the venue is a karaoke bar, i figured..there will be drinks..nothing eases a situation like alcohol lol... but im still a bit worried about all my shy asian friends...

I've found it's always easier to mix in smaller groups; one on one with you as mediator is usually easiest, or else just having one friend meet the whole group. Otherwise people will just stick with who they know. Maybe ask your more outgoing group to take the lead and split off to talk to your other friends. I'm sure the drinks will help though :)

If one group of friends is a shy and the other is not, tell the non-shy group to not be shy and open up and talk to the other group. Tell your shy asian friends to do the same thing. If you can try to incorporate a game into the get-together since this often breaks walls. If need be you notice a similarity or a shared activity between them do the classic "O you ____, (insert name) don't you do that as well?"

try to start conversations that they will both likely want to talk about, maybe that will get them to know each other better.
Also, if it's a karaoke bar have two of your friends from different groups sing a duet, it will put them more at ease with each other, especially shy asian ones.
if neither of those work, alcohol is your go-to plan=)
