How to get a cellphone number?

Hello there, can anybody pls tell me how to get a Cell number? I am planning to buy a refurbished Verizon phone in Ebay and planning to use prepaid page plus. But i don't know if where to get cell number since i have never had a phone of my own before. Those it come with the phone or do i have to sign up to get a number. Pls help me. thank you in advance.
So if i am going to use pageplus. does it mean i am going to get my number from them?
 
You have to sign up, well, when you get the prepaid thing, you'll get your phone number. Go to Verizon to set it up for you.
