how to get people to stop gossiping?

This girl in my class always gossips about me! I never cared, but now it is getting to be a problem. She goes and gossips about me to my best friend. My best friend just comes and tells me everything. How do I tell her to stop it? Should I put a note in her locker or just say it to her face?

Start a rumor that she's got HIV and whoever she's slept with has it too. That will shut her up.

Sometimes people do the opposite when they like a person. Approach her and ask her why she talks to your friend about you. It is not necessary to be confrontational,the answer may surprise you.
