My boyfriend and I went to look at engagement rings and picked one out a few months ago. Now, it has gotten to the point where I know the proposal is coming soon. I am so happy and excited, but the problem is my future mother-in-law.
When my boyfriend brought up the subject of us getting married, all hell broke loose. She accused him of "rushing into things," and even told him that he "didn't need to do anything he didn't feel comfortable with." She brought up every single little thing she dislikes about me probably in a desperate attempt to get him to change his mind.
My boyfriend and I have been going out for nearly three years, and are hardly "rushing into things." We are currently living together, and are totally in love. I know she resents me because I am the reason he moved out of the house, but enough is enough. I try so hard to get along with her, and to not give her any reason to look down on me. Even my boyfriend agrees her behavior is uncalled for.
How should I handle this?? I don't want her anger and resentment to ruin this exciting time for us =(
