alright, so after the "legal jailbreaking" thing, I have decided to root my motorola droid, firmware 2.1-update1 (which is believe is the same as 2.1.1). I have basic knowledge of computers, and a little extra. I have jailbroken my ipod, but this sounds a little bit more complicated, and since this is my phone I have to be A LOT more carefull.... Can someone reccomend a good tutorial / site to do it?
or provide a tutorial here.... I need something reliable please!
Ive heard some good stuff about cyanogen... thoughts?
the main reason I want to do this is to be able to wifi tether, but wouldnt mind being able to have all the extra customization.

Jailbreak is a term used in iPhone models. Motorola models doesn't require a jailbreak. What is the exact problem with your phone?
You won't be having any problem in adding third party apps for a Nokia. If at all you are not able to add third party apps, It must be a problem with your anti virus protection. Turn off privacy to add third party apps. Or if you need to unlock your phone from network restriction, You need to enter it's unique unlock code. You can get the unlock code from any vendors online like Unlock-Zone.com
