how to switch my verizon number to an old alltel phone?

i currently have a motorola razr but i would like to switch to another old alltel phone. i have tried to enter the esn/meid on the verizon website, but when i enter it, the website says its an invalid device? the new phone is my friends old motorola rockr.
edit: the razr that my number is on now is an alltel?
