I have a 12" JLW3 subwoofer with a 220watt JL amp. I have had it for a couple of years now, but about a year ago it started to mess up. Since then, it will act up for a week or so and then work fine for a week or so.
The sub will hit uncontrollably even when the music is turned all the way down, making a noise that sounds like distorted thunder. It also plays distorted music through the subwoofer. If i turn the DB level on my headunit all the way down and turn the radio off and back on, it will fix it sometimes, but as soon as I turn the DB back up, the subwoofer goes crazy again.
I was wondering if it was a bad voicecoil? When you push the sub all the way in, you can hear crackling and it rumbles your arm to death with the music turned down.
Anyways, I am wondering IS IT A BAD AMP OR BAD SUB? I do not want to replace the sub and find out it was the amp.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
