how to turn facebook chat off on my phone (motorola defy)?

i've been using facebook chat on my motorola defy but now, i can't stop the notifications showing in the top toolbar of my phone.

i've turning syncing off and everything and its still going.

how do i stop it? thanks :)
 
try going to the home page on fbook and hit the key with all the squares in it at the bottom of the phone. the option that comes up is Log Out of Facebook.
