how to use scroll on my touch screen motorola "crush"?

I have the setting on "recommended", but I can't seem to get the hang of "pushing" to get a screen to scroll up or down. Instead I am usually accidentally calling someone or changing a setting inadvertently. Are there any tips that I don't see on their web site or tiny instruction book that I have?
