How would you handle your friend bad taste humor?

I recently told one of my good friends who is in a different stage in life than I am, that I got offered a good job which Ive recently graduated from college. I called him and asked him to if he wanted to go out, as it is one of my last free weekends being unemployed, he said yes, but not if sure if it was out of jelousy he gave a bad taste joke "It would be funny if you got fired the very first week". I thought it was distasteful and now I dont feel like going out with him tonight.
 
If he actually meant it, he wouldn't have said it. And if he did, you probably shouldn't be friends with the guy anymore.
 
It might have just been a poorly thought out, spur-of-the-second comment made out of bittnerness. Give him a second chance? :)
