Alright. So here's the situation. I just turned sixteen like a week ago, and my parents' rules have always been, once I turn sixteen I can go on "real" dates (dinner and a movie and all of that crap.)
A boy asked me out to winter formal a few weeks before my birthday, and winter formal is in a month from now. My parents want to meet him. So he asks to pick me up then hang out at the mall tomorrow, and my parents begin acting ridiculous.
Here is my dilemma: my parents want to get to know him formally and sit and talk with him, like over dinner. I feel like this would be really awkward and like an interrogation or something for him, especially since we haven't seen each other in almost a year since he switched schools. Not so nice, kind of awkward for us.
My mom plays it off like it's no big deal to do this, because she says "A good boy would do whatever it takes to be with you." That may be true, but I don't think she should be making him jump through flaming hoops. We aren't getting married here.
My idea of my parents meeting him is, he comes over to pick me up, we invite him inside, sit down and talk, introductions are made, and then we go over what the plans are and what time we'll be back and everything, everyone's all good, then we leave to go hang out and yadda, yadda.
Are my parents being ridiculous like I think they are? Is my plan a little more normal? I feel like my parents are being way over the top for me to just go and hang out with a boy.
Some feedback would be great. Thanks in advance.
