Humanoid creatures for a short story?

At the moment I want to write a short story, why, because I'm horrible at finishing stories that I start.

For the story I need a humanoid creature, but cannot (for my life) think of one that hasn't been over-used lately such as vampires or were-wolves. So, my dillema is that I need a humanoid creature.
