I am looking for a childhood book, can't remember the author or title...?

I can't remember the author name or title, but I remember the cover. It was a couple of children wandering through a forest at night, I think under a hood or umbrella of some sort, with a lamp. behind them was some kind of monster/creepy character following behind them. It had to be from 90's or prior. If you have any ideas, hints, or clues, I'd greatly appreciate. This has been bothering the crap out of me!!
