I cannot access the Internet using my Sony Vaio?

I cannot access the Internet. I had no problems until I downloaded the most recent version of IE. Once I restarted my computer, I could not access the internet. I attempted using IE, Firefox, Chrome, Yahoo IM and my FTP program, nothing worked.
I also did a system restore and it still is not working.
