So I go into this coffee shop regularly during the week before I go into work, and I see this very good-looking barista there. First time I go there, he is friendly, smiles and takes some change from his tips and pays a little for my drink. The second time I go there, I go with my friend on our break and I attempted to crack a small joke during me and my friend's "serious" discussion. I laugh, she doesn't laugh, and but the coffee guy gives me a small, but somewhat shy smile.
Now, the next times I go in there, he gives me this mesmerizing stare that he holds for a while and then quickly turns away. He never makes small talk with me, but does so with other customers. This has happened a couple times and whenever I catch him staring, I give him a smile but either he turns away or holds it for a little longer. His co-workers look at me with these big eyes...I don't even know.
Another instance. He's at register, but theres another woman asking us ahead of what we want. When I order, I noticed almost all of his coworkers are watching us. As he was about to ask what I wanted, the woman who was asking us quickly mumbles what I wanted. NEITHER of them say anything to me, and he just ends up telling me my total. That's it. But when my friend orders, he starts a little conversation with her.
Somedays, the place is packed and it looks like he is having the time of his life chatting it away with co-workers and other customers. He's loud and definately outgoing. But whenever its my turn to order or wait for my drink, he NEVER talks to me, and sometimes he does these weird gestures where he pretends to shoot a basket to stall time or just plays with his hat.
And I also noticed, theres this one co-worker that watches us with amused eyes as if he's waiting for something to happen. But nobody really says anything.
So, I'm confused and much help would be appreciated. What is your input about the other co-workers and I know it is not professional for employees to be hitting on customers, but do some coffee shops have small exceptions? As in you can talk/flirt with customers but in a subtle manner? What do you guys think?
