Check To Make Sure The Carb Is Pushing Gas. Check The Lines To The Carb If Their Gas To It You Might Have To Clean The Carb Or You Might Be Suck In Air Somewhere Between The Carb And The Intake, So Check The Carb To Intake For A Good Seal And Check Intake To Head For A Good Seal

fluid for 30seconds only.? when i put starter fluid in it runs for a very short amount of time. then shuts down. it sat for two years and i don't know how to fix it. what could be wrong.

don't start it on pure starting fluid you better off using wd 40. Starting fluid will dry out the piston rings. Anyway does it have fuel, is it getting fuel to the carb, is it 2 stroke or 4 does it have the right mix in it. With it running on starting fluid it tells me that the motor is fine and it is probably not getting gas.

The fuel system has gunk in it. The gasoline has probably developed into varnish from sitting so long, and has clogged the carburetor up, or the fuel injection system.
Time for a competent mechanic.
