I have a 1995 GMC Yukon................?

I just changed the thermostat and now my trucks gauge is going nuts, it goes up to 260 and then gradually comes down to normal temperature and does this the entire time I am driving, now it is smoking a little while I idol not a lot but enough to see it, what else could it be? I called the GMC dealers and I am getting nowhere with them they want me to come in and have 89.00 an hour dumped into them before they will tell me anything.
 
you have a couple of problems here, and possibly could have damaged the head gasket seeing that you've been seeing temps of 260F. you need to check to see if your steam is a leak or if it is coming out of the the tail pipe. i'm keeping my fingers crossed for you. you probably installed the thermostat upside down also.
 
I had same problem .antifreeeze was not compat. togehter. 2 kinds dont mix good .drain all and put fresh in?
