...sound. What could this be? When I'm inside the car driving, I feel/hear some grinding that seems to be coming from the front of the car. The grinding occurs when braking. When I'm outside of the car and my fiance is driving away, I can hear a squealing (that doesn't seem to be associated with braking). The brakes are new (about a year old) and I just had it serviced a couple of months ago including new timing belt, etc. I do need to replace the front arm control bushings b/c both are cracked but I couldn't afford to do that during the last expensive service. Could this be the cause of the noise I'm hearing? I'm freaking out!

its your brakes, if the pads and rotors were recently done then the calipers may need replacement, shop around repair shops for those and make sure the parts are warrantied for life, except the rotors, they usually go for a year

Your problem definitely sounds brake related. It is possible that you have got a small pebble lodged in the brake assembly. Try tapping the brakes while safely driving in reverse. If the noise doesn't go away soon then you need to get it checked out for sure. Metal to metal sounds are BAD!

Could be the heater/air conditioner, try turning it off and on and see if the noise is on both ways......
