i have a Compaq Presario f500. whenever i try to connect to the internet it

says local only instead of local ? and internet. i called the manufacturer for them to help me. they said it was a problem with my computers configuration but she couldn't tell me how to fix the problem b/c my computer isn't under warranty anymore and they would have to charge me. can anyone tell me what configuration i am looking for or what error i should be looking for and how to fix it?
