I have a cracked iphone screen but the iphone still works, what should I do?

Will this cost me some money, and should I back up my files? Its actually an ipod touch just in-case it matters. It is a glass screen there is some glass missing but not in any of the areas that you need to touch only the very top and bottom. My Ipod woks fine except recently it has been flickering a little also if you push down to hard it leaves a smudge for a second.
