I doubt it was brake cleaner. My guess was that it was ether or some other starting fluid. Try giving it a BRIEF spritz in the air cleaner, and see if it will start. You don't need a lot of the stuff.
If that doesn't do it, try these tests:
Check to see if you have spark. Remove the spark plug, put it back in the boot on the end of the wire, and let the electrode on the tip of the plug rest against something metal on the engine. Then crank the engine over and see if you get a spark there. If it's a bright, strong white or blue spark, you're probably good. If it's weak or intermittent, this might be the problem.
Before you put the plug back in, smell the spark plug hole. Do you smell gas fumes? If you don't, you may be out of gas, or the filter or a line is plugged, or the gas line has a shutoff valve that you forgot to open.
