I have an older Dell laptop without a built-in wireless card. How do I...

...get it hooked up to wireless internet? I have no idea what I am doing with this technology junk. All I know is that my friend looked up my computer model and said that I do not have built-in wireless and that I would need to by a USB wireless adapter. If I buy said adapter, will I be able to jump on the internet?

Apparently, we have some kind of cable internet from Comcast. I just have no idea if I need to get a router or an adapter or what.

Very frustrated and would appreciate any guidance through this!!

i have an older toshiba satellite w/o built in wireless also and i've been using a usb adapter to go online. it works really good and actually has a better range than the internal cards do, but it has a few drawbacks, it's a bit fragile, you have to take it in and out all the time, and it always sticks out. you can also try a card reader if your dell has the card slot. both typically cost about that same. i don't know about with the cable internet tho, i just have a wireless router, maybe someone else can offer advice on that. gl!
