i have dial-up internet and i need to know why it will not play any video or audio?

ok....my parents decided to get dial-up service and it refuses to play any videos and audio and when i try to down load music it takes like a week.......is there any thing i can do to solve this or is this a lost cause........btw its msn dial-up
