I have download movie's to dvd to play on my dvd writer, it say i need a play back

any one know how to do it? all i need to know is what is a play back is and how do you get in on your cd-r or dvd-r .... my dvd writer say it don't have play back on these disc,but in the book it say i can use these disc.... the cd-r work as a music cd... but when i burn a movie on it did not work (can not find playback)... so any one know how to get playback...so how do you rip a play back....
