on my own? Or would i just..? be better off taking it somewhere and getting it done? I dont know much about cars but I have friends who can work on cars but they arent certified. My check engine light is on, has been for a long time, today i backed out of my driveway it rode rough, then drove and started to shake a little(was going under 35mph) when I stopeed at the stop sign, it would idle rough and then stall, so I would restart the car and it would go with no problems. I am driving to cincinnati this weekend, I am in Michigan, its a 4 hour trip, i DO NOT have a lot of money and I need this done soon!

If i shouldnt do it myself, how much do you think itll cost total with part included to have done? I was quoted by auto zone its $50 for the part.

Welcome to the world of automotive ownership. It's always cheaper to fix it yourself. You didn't mention how or why it was determined that the EGR valve was the problem. If you don't diagnose it properly, you can end up spending money on parts you don't need. If your friends like to work on cars, they should have a code reader. Ask them to buy a code reader, and be their first customer to pay $10 to read the trouble code in your car. And next time, tell us what engine you have! Vulcan or Duratec?
