I was using a Blitz 802.11b router for the past 5 years, I decided to upgrade it since my laptop was able to work on the N wireless. I bought a D-Link wireless N model DIR-628. I followed all the instructions installing it. before, with my old router I had my destop with the printer and my laptop setup to share files and I could print from the laptop. after I got the new router intalled none of that would work! a trial program came with the new router that when I intalled on both pc's, I could then share files only using that program! but not the printer. Plus it was only a TRIAL as if I didn't pay enough already for the router! to keep sharing files they want me to purchase the program! to check if there was a problem with one of the computers after I installed the new router, I re-connected the old one back, and then everything was working once again! is there any setting that I can change on this new router that will let me share my printer and files? Ive looked online for help in the support sites for d-link, and cant find anything other than using that trial program that came with the router, its called "Network Magic" the reason I dont like the program is because you have to have it open and it will display shared files under it's window! before I could see the other pc's folders in "my network places" and view and change them as if the files were on the pc that I was at! and the printer worked as if it too was connected to both pc's at the same time! I could open the printers folder and see it from both pc's.
Please if there is a was around this program or there is settings to change please help me!
even if it's possible to disable the firewall in the router! that might work. but I cant seem to find a setting that disables it totally, my old one didn't have to have my make 26 character passwords for the wireless connection! this one does! I just glad the laptop doesn't ask for that password every time I get online!!
Please email me to chat about the problem that way we can communicate back and fourth. [email protected]
Thanks
