...veers to the right.? Dealer checked the alignment and no problems there. They say it is a bad tire on the front of my front wheel drive vehicle. What constitutes a "bad tire" on a brand new suv?

And after the dealer replaced the tire, does it drive better?

Good Luck

A tire is made up of a bunch of steel belts woven into a circle and encased in rubber. If one of those belts is even slightly out of place when the rubber tread is attached it can cause the tire to not roll down the road properly. Even though the tire is brand new it will want to roll to one side or the other. Even the tread on the tire, if not perfectly manufactured, can cause the tire to roll off center. When this "bad tire" is mounted on your SUV, it can cause a pull even if the alignment is good. Your dealer most likely put the tire on a wheel balancer that measures roadforce. The wheel balancer can simulate the tire rolling down the road and measure the amount that the tire wants to pull left or right.

It's not a big deal, just let them replace the tire. The only way to test for this problem is to mount the tire on a rim and drive the car and since each car will act differently with the same tire and no one is going to buy new tires that look like they were already used, the manufacturers simply test them the best they can without mounting them and replace the defects when they show up.
