Do it until you feel bored or get pain in your knees, ankles, or butt. Any longer than that and you won't want to keep up with it, and that's money in the trash. Make a note of how long you use it each time and the distance you've gone, it's really motivating and ensures a consistent workout. Your weight loss also depends on your speed. If you go fast for a couple minutes and a slow/regular pace for a couple minutes, then repeat for your whole session, you burn extra fat and calories. Just look up 'interval training', it's the new craze.
I also suggest making it fun by listening to your favorite songs and club remixes. When you're singing along in your head, the time goes by a lot faster.
