i just went on birth control about a month ago,but i'm still bleeding,is that normal?

im 15,i have von willabrands disease(mild) and i just went on birth control during the first week of august,but im still spotting AND bleeding...is it normal!?such as today i had horrible cramps!and the flow was pretty heavy....but im pretty sure this shouldnt be another period so fast...please help!
