the government, What are they? The never mention them in their ad and I can't seem to locate any information.
Thanks Chicken Head.
Since it goes into the Federal Retirement program it looks like Congress trying to support a failing retirement system for Federal employees added to the cost of each stamp we buy.

notmagic - Actually the USPS is not a for profit organization. In trying to find this information there are very disturbing rules to perpetuate inefficiency.
Excessing and rules to make automation ineffective along with no cut contracts mean that waste is encouraged.

Sounds like both the APWU and Congress are both taxing us excessively.

The US Govt Postal Service is Billions in Debt every quarter, they don't give money to govt, they take money from us to get bailed out.

Maybe part of the reason the USPS is so broke is that they pay for Ads on TV- WTF? What a waste!

In 2003 the Civil Service Disability Reform Act made it mandatory for the USPS to fund their retirement and disability service fund for 75 years out into the future. And they were given 10 years to get these funds into place. And that does not include a $26 billion lump sum payment to start with. That is the $5.3 billion dollar payment the USPS has to make each year to that fund. Now tell me what other government organization or private company for that matter is mandated to fund 75 years of retirement benefits and given 10 years to create the fund? Prior to 2003 the USPS was running about a $1 billion budget to the good. Now they are $3.5 billion in the red. And many on the right blame USPS for this?

And why you ask would a Republican Congress and a Republican president pass such a bill? The answer is simple. What is the single largest union in the US? The US postal workers. And what political party benefits the most from union support? The Democrats. So it was obviously an under handed attempt at political dirty tricks in order to destroy what was a functioning and money making government agency all for political gain.

The USPS folks have to have pension for their employees 75 years in advance. That means they're forced to "save" money for employees they don't even have yet.

The word "union" provides me with all the info I need. Like the other industries destroyed by unions the postal industry will go by the wayside.
