...for the water bill? I recently got an apartment with a couple of my friends. Before we got the apartment we ask the people who worked there did each apartment have their own water meter. They told us yes. But after we signed the contract we told them we are going on vacation from June-September so we want them to shut off the water since we are not going to be there for 4 months. But then told me that they can not do that because the whole apartment shares a water meter. What can I do? I just got back from vacation and the water bill is $415 dollars! What can I do?? I do not want to pay for something I did not use at all. If i do pay, i'm basically paying for my neighbors water bill!

The moral of this story is to know beforehand just what your financial responsibilities of renting/sharing an apartment will be BEFORE you commit to it and take possession.

I suggest you reread that contract/lease agreement and I bet there's a clause in there that covers this exact situation and that, ultimately, you are responsible for any water charges incurred during the period of time you occupy or not occupy said apartment during the leasing period.
