I need help hooking up my PS3 to the internet?

Heres my deal, I have my PS3 in my garage, I also have a cable tv in the garage hooked up to my tv, and I get my internet service through my cable tv service, can I get a modem and split the cable in my garage and hook it up to the modem and then from the modem to my PS3?
