ok, so ia m taking care of this betta for my friend. hers just died so i got her another one for her bday. SO, the fish is a crown-tail and he likes to stay at the bottom. he breathes heavily and is lethargic. he DOES eat his food and i keeping all of his color. i must mention that he had a very traumatic fall because he jumped out of his bowl. well last night he was doing very well but then when i got home from school he was at the bottom of his tank and his water was very cloudy and stunk really bad. i rushed him to the bathroom and changed his water immediately. he does swim around occasionally, but not very often. i am very worried about him and my friend would be devastated if her died. i need help! his tank doesn't have filtration or a heater btw. thanks for any replies in advance!

My betas were always lazy and lethargic. I read up on them and a book told me to add a heater to the water and that helped mine somewhat. I just think they are mainly calm fish.
