i havent ever owned a dirt bike or anything before and id like to get a dual sport bike....something that is good for a beginner but is also powerful enough to take on the freeway and something that is very reliable...dual sport bikes dont cost all that much money so id like to find something that would give me the most bang for my buck but not so much power that i cant handle it...im 5'6 and 130 lbs if that matters

thanks

To continue where Bud left off if I may. Whenever these cycle companies offer these deals you must not be late or miss a payment. If you do then the regular deal you made is null and void and you must make payments that you would rather not have. Be sure to ask the dealer all the up's and downs to this type of deals before you sign anything.

If you really want "bang", the fuel injected Yamaha WR250R is the way to go. It will run onion rings around anything else in it's class.

Will has some good suggestions, but if you want to do freeway, you need a bit more power. I'd suggest a 650, but you may be a bit light to start on one. I think a DR350 SE would be just right. They are only available used, but you ought to be able to find a nice one for $1300-2000.

THIS IS NO JOKE -ok..........Im about a 270 lb man......I know of a awesome bike that looks good...... HERES the answer................
Go look on line or at a shop....Its a Yamaha YT 200cc.....elec & kick start.....Fatty tires and comes in with chrome or black wheels.....I'm kinda old but still they r neat.....The letters above may b differant.....
Thats the only 200cc dual sport they have.....
If u get a hold over or a new... Yamaha has a pro-mo ....cheap payments....Its a 2 year deal, u must pay it off before the deal is off..

I've picked some smaller dual sports, and used models for the bang for buck aspect, all of these would be good beginner bikes;

Lowest seat height, Kawasaki Super Sherpa, a 250cc four-stroke with electric start. Silly name but good on road and decent enough off road to have fun.

Medium Yamaha XT225 (also called the Serow), a 223cc four stroke. Later models have electric start (but would be an easy kick). Made a few more years than the Super Sherpa, so there will be really good prices. Decent off road.

A bit older, and taller, Honda NX250, four stroke 250cc, electric start. More of an on-road bike but will do trails. More power than the others but manageable. The NX has plastic radiator shrouds and a small fairing, which might be easy to damage if the bike is dropped.

Almost any Honda dual sport 250 will be ok, XL250 (really old), XR250L etc, but these are kick start, and only the L model of the XR is road legal. These will tend to be better off road.

A new Honda XR230L will be similar but not usually a good value to buy new. Get any used bike checked by a dealer (often its a good idea to buy used from a dealer and get a short warranty).
