I think I am an Atheist, but I am started to become interested in Buddhism, anyone

have any ideas? Recently I have noticed that Christianity is full of hypocrites, intolerance and politics which has well driven me away from it. I have looked at the Bible critically and well respectfully its a load of nonsense, full of Talking Donkeys, Man walking on water, some vengeful being who destroys whole cities for being immoral etc. and well it has made me spent too long trying to fix my homosexuality as I was taught it was wrong, that well I need to be happy and can't get that from Christianity, so I guess I am now an Atheist.

That aside, having a somewhat open mind has rekindled my interest in Buddhism , I visited a temple in school (but it was very much a "this is another religion, its not for you" mentality ) and I did a project on it, and I have always liked it. I am considering learning more about it, since I live on my own, and well it seems such a nice way to live your life, working to better yourself through meditation, being at peace etc.
Anil - Well not exactly. The buddha did exist, and he was just a man. Its kinda an atheistic religion is that makes any sense. There is no creator God, but there are supernatural beliefs like Karma and Reincarnation (that I somewhat believe in)
? - Well no, I have disdain for Islam , since it teaches execution of homosexuals, people who leave the religion, treating women like a lesser species, the complete lack of morality of Muhammed etc.
Marj - Correct me if I am wrong, but isn't threatening Hell kinda a sin in Christanity. Isn't God meant to be the only one to decide who goes there?

i think this verse from william shakespear matches what budhism at its core is about; there is nothing either good or bad but thinking makes it so.

Well some Buddhist don't believe in that superstitious stuff so go ahead, in fact the Buddha himself said that you shouldn't believe in something you disagree with.

Gautama Buddha did not endorse belief in a creator deity, refused to express any views on creation and stated that questions on the origin of the world are worthless.

I think you'll be just fine. Buddhism is a philosophy, not a religion.

I think it is a good choice, I myself am an atheist. Just so you know you dnt have to believe everything u read/learn/hear in buddhism. I Found many aspects of it diffucult being an Atheist. Also Buddhism is very gay friendly I was worried at first if I would be accepted since I'm gay but it's not a big deal to
most buddhists. If your serious about Buddhism I suggest to start visiting a temple, you dnt have to choose a tradition to study in but many do. I hope the best for you along your spuritual
journey! Peace friend

Jesus is definitely real just so you know and he loves you very much, homosexuality is a sin but I believe that it only is a sin once you have sex. People cannot help the way they feel, I think it is just the devil trying to turn you away with those feelings but as long as you don't give into them then it is not a sin.If you pray to God with a sincere heart he will forgive you and help you to turn away from your sin.
But you should not pick and choose your religions according to what makes you happy or else you will never be content. Pray to god and ask him to show you his love for you and that he is there. Don't turn away from God because of the world and the people in it.

That's good since you won't be attacking Christians constantly the way the Atheists do. One problem, your home will be in hell just the same.

Some people really know so little about religions that aren't there own. Buddhists do not worship god or gods, and Buddha is not an idol of worship. There are some older sects of Buddhists that follow Hindu beliefs being as Buddhism sprang from Hinduism.
The idea of non attachment to prevent suffering doesn't mean we should ignore vaccines and medicine. If suffering can be alleviated through such things, then that is the wrong kind if suffering you are thinking of. Buddhism focuses on mental suffering, most importantly death and attachment from materials. Siddhartha didn't say not to be attached to medicine and herbs, he said to not be attached to to objects that cause false happiness. Material objects and not accepting the idea of death will cause suffering. Many Buddhists view death as a celebration, a transition from one life to the next. It is necessary, so it should not cause so much emotional distress. Mourn but don't suffer.

If you want to be a Buddhist, that's great. I'd recommend reading some Buddhist literature from Buddhist monks and scholars. But keep an open mind to any other ideas that you may find on your journey, you may find a religion that suits you better.
If Buddhism is for you, meditation is a key practice. Through meditation work on compassion, mindfulness and kindness to all. Meditation and mindfulness can be done anywhere: while you're driving, waiting in line, eating etc.

imaginary friends are for children and grown up retards.
if you think you are stupid enough for buddhism then go for it.

I don't know, I personally think Buddhism is overrated.

Buddhism's hypothesis that suffering can be reduced by letting go of attachment is a pre-modern solution to the problem of suffering. It might have made sense in a wolrd where direct participation did not seem to reduce suffering by much. But today there's lots of better ways of reducing suffering, like inventing vaccines. Not only that, retiring from all attachments takes your contribution out of the general pool so it actually increases suffering. This is why I'm no fan of Buddhism.

well, truly being an atheist is the first wrong decision. there is a God, no doubt.

the second wrong decision is believing a religion that has no God. it may fit your life style, but its a heretical religion to begin with.
even if there are some good moral teachings which is agreed upon in most other religions.
