I tried to put the french accents by pressing the alt+no.,but it's not working.?

Instead save as table comes up.What should I do? I even tried to put the symbols from the symbols section in insert but it's taking a long time.
 
Use the Alt Key
Hold it down then type 3 or 4 numbers and let go of the Alt Key

take an extended table ASCII like this one http://www.asciitable.com/
and keeping the key "ASC" held, type the number of the code (3 digits)
ex: ALT + 130 = é

you can also in windows,
go to Programs/accessory/tool system/Character's table
and copy and paste the character
