i want to rent an older suspenseful sci-fi movie w/that "what would i do"...

...feeling to it (similar to...)? similar to something like 'last man on earth', 'day the earth stood still', 'planet of the apes', 'soylent green'. B&W is fine - heck, even silent is fine ('metropolis')... maybe something 1984-ish or brave-new-world-ish
.
...something that my local crummy blockbuster would carry
.
...otherwise i'm going to rent 'a few dollars more', since i still haven't seen it (and since eastwood is a babe)
.
THANKS GUYS!

If you like time-travel, I recommend "The Philadelphia Experiment" from the mid-eighties. I've been a one-man cult-following for that movie since it came out!

...

- but, first, for something completely different:

I second ALIENS for top nomination. If you haven't seen it.

Strange Days is a brilliant and underrated dystopian sci-fi film. Definitely 1984-esque.

John Carpenter's The Thing is pretty good (but gory). And the original Thing (1951) is fantastic. It achieves amazing suspense through top notch acting.
