I was watching CNN and this thing came out about gay wad? What does it mean?

An Arkansas 10-year-old says he won't pledge to the flag until gays and lesbians have equal right and his classmates are calling him a gay wad now. What does that mean?

Gay wad is just another homo-centric insult, like fag, etc. I would assume it means "wad of gay."
