San Jose to compete in an en? I will be driving my truck and towing a horse trailer from Petaluma down to South San Jose to compete in an endurance ride. Again, I can go down the East Bay and cross the Carquinez Bridge. The distance is now 107 miles down, and toll with my trailer is $8.50 (northbound). If I go through San Francisco (lots of fun with a horse trailer!), the distance is now 108 miles, and the toll across the Golden Gate Bridge is $10 (southbound). The current cost of diesel fuel is $3.45 per gallon, and my truck gets 18 mpg when towing. Again, I have to get there and then come home. What route should I take and how much will it cost me? ( using this equation Call T the toll amounts for a one-way trip, C the cost per gallon of gas, and D the one-way distance


Cost = 2(T + CD/M)

The 2 reflects that you have to go there and back.

M is the missing factor. CD/M needs to end up in monetary terms.

C is the price of gas, which I will assume is given in $/gallon D is in miles. To make this
work M must be in miles/gallon. So M is your fuel efficiency.
 
To heck with the fuel prices. The cargo in the trailer warrants the safest rout available. Take a rout with the least amount of traffic unless you want to kill the horses.
