I wonder why British and Irishmen don't get along well if their religions are so

alike? As much as I know Anglicans and Catholics believe in more or less the same things, they just disagree about the authority of the Pope.
 
Read up on some history.
The conflict is not all about religion.
It's just part of the equation.
Those who were English belonged to the Church of England.
The native Irish were mostly Catholic
Political differences happen to coincide w/ religious beliefs.
Loyal to the English crown...Protestant....anti Papist
Opposed to english rule.....Catholic....Papist
To make it worse the flames were fanned from the pulpits of both churches.
Christians at each other's throats , behaving very un-christian :throw in
politics & there you have it.
Ask an Irish national ( Protestant or Catholic ) who came here to escape "the troubles".
A volatile mix of religion & politics...sound familiar.?
